Site-specific performance by KINKALERI for the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence, 2024

AcrossKissKissYou is based on the relationship between the bodies of five dancers and their potential ability to be the form and substance of a feeling of fragility and power, vitality and desire. All in a close relationship with the environment, sublimated in the forms and lines of force of Michelangelo's sculpture to which the performative action is intimately related. The performance - as the Kinkaleri explain - experiments with the relationship of the body with physical space and with the bodies of others, giving life to a group/body that focuses on the presence of a dense, complex and stratified entity, in relation to the centers of tension and vanishing points, where the individual and the collective become expressions of the same creative action, operationally considered as physical and choral architecture, personal and overall.

''I like to see the Accademia Gallery as an open space attentive to different artistic expressions'' underlines director Cecilie Hollberg. “It is a place that preserves the masterpieces of art history but is also contemporary and addresses different audiences. The performative action of the Kinkaleri, through languages and expressive methods of the present time, relates to Michelangelo's masterpieces, such as the Prisoners and the David, giving them a new interpretation.''
